Jana Sterbak

16 September - 31 December 2011

The 2011 installation,  MUSÉE RÉATTU | SUR MESURES marks the opening of a new and original visit developed in harmony with the building, and free from any constraints of era, register or technique. It draws support from the historic painting and work of JACQUES RÉATTU, which ranges magnificently over the figures of Orpheus, Prometheus, Narcissus and Alcibiades, touching on the still life, the landscape and the Vanitas along the way. This autumn, the emblematic scene of this installation, the studio of Jacques Réattu invites JANA STERBAK to take over from VLADIMIR SKODA.

His 200,00 marbles are succeeded by her 15 monumental spheres, steel making way for glass, without in any way interrupting the cosmic ferment.... This "Planetarium", created by the artist at the CIRVA* originated out of the very movement of the glass blower as he starts out with a bubble of glass: "In my work, the materials are active, wrote the artist [...] It was while seeing the material pass "naturally" from a state of magma into a sphere that my imagination made the link with the origin of the solar system." Dense, transparent, heavy, mineral, solar and lunar all at once, these planets have given rise to other works : one of them can be seen in a photographic work by the artist, grandly dedicated to Atlas (Courtesy of galerie Tapies, Barcelona.)

* The Centre International de Recherche sur le Verre et les Arts plastiques (Marseille) welcomes artists, designers or architects who wish to introduce glass into their creative approach. The artists research and realise their projects with assistance from the Centre's technical team, according to their requirements and desired pace.
