Following on from the exhibition ‘Christian Lacroix – Drawings, Sketches and Graffiti’, the museum explores the relationship this multifaceted designer has with photography, presenting a selection of works he has acquired over the past thirty years or so. This collection spans a fairly broad aesthetic spectrum, ranging from scenes of everyday life by Véronique Ellena and Guillaume Janot to the poetic and offbeat approaches to fashion photography by Sarah Moon and Grégoire Alexandre. The face of Christian Lacroix, as the emblem and embodiment of his fashion house for over twenty years, is also a recurring subject, having been captured notably by Annie Leibovitz, Paolo Roversi, Mario Testino and Erwin Wurm.
The exhibition, set out within the permanent collections and echoing the themes explored there – the figure of the hero, the portrait, the body, etc. – also showcases works from the museum’s photographic collection, which has been enriched in recent years, through Christian Lacroix’s involvement, with important works by Nancy Wilson-Pajic and Katerina Jebb.
This exhibition forms part of the ‘Arles Associé’ programme of the Rencontres d’Arles.
